EPL Preview – Stoke City vs Manchester City

November 30th, 2010 by Admin

Manchester City has a shot to end the week in second place in the English Premier League standings. In order to do so, they will need to be Stoke City on Saturday, sports betting fans eagerly waiting for this event. Stoke City is currently in eighth in the standings. Stoke City has been hot of late. They have won three straight games, including a shutout of Liverpool. Manchester City followed back to back scoreless draws with a 4-1 blowout of Fulham.

Manchester City has scored nineteen goals on the season. The offense broke out against Fulham but has often been less than stellar. Carlos Tevez has scored nine goals on the season to easily lead the team. He has 53 shots on goal while no one else has reached 20 shots. The real strength for Manchester City has been goaltending. Goalie Joe Hart has allowed just eleven goals in fourteen starts. His strong play has kept Manchester City in every game. He is getting better as the season progresses.

For Stoke City, the winning streak has given them new life on the season. They have scored eighteen goals and allowed eighteen goals so far this season. Goalie Asmir Begovic has filled in for Thomas Sorensen and performed well. Kenwyne Jones leads the team with four goals. Stoke City has more balance on offense, but the attack is not as strong as it needs to be.

The two teams had a draw in last season’s meeting at Stoke City. Manchester City won the game at home. On paper Manchester City is the stronger team. Hart is good enough to get them a win or draw in every contest. However, Stoke City is playing at home and has momentum. A win here would continue their climb up the standings. The edge in this game will go to the team who can forge the better offensive attack.

For the Love of the Game

November 27th, 2010 by Admin

Copyright: Christina Houser Photography

For the love of the game…as sports should be played.

Meet Josiah Viera, a six year old boy from Pennsylvania, who loves baseball. He just happens to have a rare disease that accelerates his body’s aging process at a rate of 10 years for every 1 year lived. He can barely lift a bat and his small stature makes it difficult to throw a ball. But, he loves the game. And, all he wanted to do was play his beloved game of baseball on a team.

Does your team, club or league play for the love of the game?

Sometimes amid the crush of competitive pressures and the drive to be our best, we have to remember why we do what we do and make sure our actions are aligned with our values. It isn’t wins and losses, MVP trophies or Championship titles, but the simple joy of playing the game, the relationships formed and the lessons learned. This story is a great reminder that we are surrogates in providing the platform, so players can play the game. Let’s continue to give the game back to the players…

Arsenal faces Tottenham in English Premier League action

November 25th, 2010 by Admin

Arsenal will look to move to the top of the Premier League standings when they host Tottenham. Tottenham is looking for separation as they sit in a three way tie for fifth place in the EPL. Arsenal is looking for their third straight EPL win while Tottenham is looking for their second straight win.

Tottenham has scored eighteen goals this season while allowing seventeen. Gomes has allowed thirteen goals since taking over the starting job from Carlo Cudicini. He has 31 saves on the season. Goaltending has been erratic at times for Tottenham, but Gomes offers an upgrade at the position. Rafael Van der Vaart leads the team with five goals, but the team should get help with the return of striker Jermain Defoe. Van der Vaart has 47 shots on goal to lead the team.

Arsenal has gotten strong goalie play from Lukasz Fabianski. He has allowed just five goals in seven starts and has been remarkably strong since taking over the starting job. As a team, Arsenal has scored 26 goals and has one of the most potent attacks in the league. Marouane Chamakh leads the team with five goals but Arsenal spreads the ball around. Samir Nasri and Alex Song add a lot of scoring punch. Four different players have at least 25 shots on goal for Arsenal.

The two teams split their meetings last season. Arsenal won their home game 3-0 while losing 2-1 on the road. Arsenal has a clear advantage on offense and defense and should use the home crowd to their advantage. However, Tottenham is a team that can’t be taken lightly. They have played well in the Champions League and will look to carry that momentum in to this game.
