Spain Football Shirt The top sports brands like Nike and Adidas dominate the market for European international soccer shirts but over the past few season we’ve began to see Puma and Umbro make real inroads into the market. Umbro will manufacture the britain Euro 2012 football shirts similarly as ireland and Wales, if they reach the tournament. Puma manufacture the soccer shirts for the bulk of the African nations and they have began to sponsor a lot of and additional of the Euro 2012 teams together with Czech Republic, Bulgaria and of course Italy.

Sales for the new Euro 2012 soccer jerseys are expected to be higher than any previous tournament with sales continuing to extend each season and peaking at the 2010 World Cup. we may not see the amount of the world Cup, as there are a smaller range of teams in the competition but the sales are expected to be around concerning a similar volume.

There are in fact a few teams that may dominate the sales at Euro 2012 with France, Italy, Holland, Germany, England and in fact the champions Spain all being sure to sell lots. you furthermore mght get lots of the smaller countries shirts being popular with fans perhaps not having seen the soccer jerseys too typically before. there will additionally in all probability be a team that unexpectedly performs well and their Euro 2012 soccer shirts will certainly be amongst the biggest selling.

The Most Dangerous Lead in Soccer: 2-0

June 29th, 2011 by Admin

A frustrated Bob Bradley after going up 2-0 in the Gold Cup final and losing 4-2. (c) Concacaf

For the many people who had the opportunity to watch the USA vs Mexico Gold Cup final on Saturday, I hope you enjoyed the roller coaster ride!  The ups and downs of my emotions, complete with the 100 foot drop as Clint Dempsey smashed the crossbar with a left footed shot, which would have tied the game at 3-3 was incredible!  The story of the USMNT (United States Men’s National Team) Gold Cup final run can honestly be described by simply watching Mexico’s last goal by Giovani Dos Santos, a scramble.  Below is the replay of the goal.  Please, take a second and watch this world-class goal.  After watching it, pause it at 0:08 into the video.  Count the United States players behind the ball.  Six!  Let me repeat that, six USA defenders behind the ball inside our own 18 and we let them score.  Inexcusable.  We had players scrambling behind Tim Howard for cover, players just watching Dos Santos dance on the ball inside our own box, and players stabbing at the ball just trying to get a flick on Dos Santos deft touch.  Quite embarrassing if you ask me.  A brilliant run in behind the USA defense (a common theme of the night) by Dos Santos, Howard flopping around like a fish out of water, and a world-class finish turned our Gold Cup dreams into a Silver Platter of questions.  After going up 2-0 only twenty-three minutes into the game, we are left only to scratch our heads.  How can a national team squad give up four unanswered goals and just collapse?  This is a great example to all coaches out there to not be complacent when getting a lead. Here we will examine the Do’s and Don’ts of the most dangerous lead in soccer, 2-0.

Getting up 2-0 and Not Looking Back

Based on the USMNT performances throughout the tournament, I didn’t really give them a chance in this game.  I remember sending Coach Jerry Mac a text saying, “What does coach Bradley have up his sleeve for today?”  When we went up 2-0,  I was in shock and I thought, “Wow, maybe we do have a chance.”

But then I noticed something: the strategy of the game never changed from when the whistle blew to start the game to when Donovan knocked in the second goal.  This game started off very open, which worried me because I didn’t think we had the pace to keep up with a very quick Mexican side.  To go up 2-0 was a dream start!  But we didn’t protect the lead. Instead, we invited Mexico into our midfield so they could keep sending in their forwards behind our defense.  A 2-0 lead can be debated as being the most dangerous leads in soccer. If the opposing team gets a goal, the momentum starts to shift, players begin to panic, and mistakes start to be made.  So, what should have the US done in order to protect their 2:0 lead?  What do you as a coach have to change tactically in order to prevent a collapse like we saw in the Gold Cup final?  How can you take a 2-0 lead and not look back on it?

  • Do Not Go in a Defensive Block - Many coaches when they get up two goals will change to a more defensive strategy.  They may even change their formation and bring more players back on defense.  The issue occurs when you go into a ”complete“ defensive block and just allow your opponent to keep coming down your throat (you are setting yourself up for disaster).  You must adjust to the situation.  With 10 minutes left in the match, yes a defensive block might be the right strategy.  However, if you are going to allow your opponent to keep attacking and keep generating chances, a mistake will be made and a goal will come.
  • Adjust to the Opponent - Observe and take notice of how the game has played out thus far.  Has the other team created chances or have they pretty much sat back and let you attack?  If they have created some good chances but have gotten unlucky, maybe you want to change to a more defense strategy.  But remember, don’t go into a “complete defensive block.”  Try instead to rely on a more counter-attacking approach.  Tighten it up in the midfield and don’t allow your opponent to get the ball and turn.  If your opponent thus far has let you come at them and attack, continue to attack!   A third goal could be the icing on the cake.
  • Don’t Panic - Your team will react to you as a coach.  If you begin to panic, so will your team.  If the other team does happen to get another goal to cut the lead to 2-1, stay positive and remember not to go into a “defensive block. This is the easiest way for your team to recognize that you are panicking.

What I would have done if I were coach Bob Bradley…

As I mentioned before, when the USMNT went up 2-0, the strategy of the game didn’t change and the game remained open.  After Donovan’s goal, I would have changed the formation to a 4-5-1 and dropped Dempsey or Freddy Adu back into the midfield and relied on the counter attack.  Mexico is too fast and too creative to allow them to keep the game open.  As the game went on and pressure was added, we completely lost our midfield and possession.  Going up 2-0, we needed to control the clock by keeping possession and limit turnovers in the midfield.  We needed to tighten everything up in the back and not allow the forwards to make those runs in behind our defense.  We needed to tighten up the midfield so they didn’t have time to get their head’s up and make those through balls in behind our defense.

What else do you think the USMNT and Bradley could have done to prevent such a stunning collapse?

The Importance of Keeping Possession in Soccer

June 28th, 2011 by Admin

I came across a blog post today with a video about attacking soccer. The information was very basic, but one of the points the coach made struck me as very true. He was discussing the options available to an attack minded forward when he receives the ball.

  • Option 1 – Look for the shot
  • Option 2 – Look to play a penetrating pass
  • Option 3 – If nothing is on, make a pass to keep possession

Option 3 is the choice I want to focus in on for a moment. Too often I see young players try to turn when they have multiple defenders on their back. They lose the ball in an area of the field that the team has worked hard to enter.

Tap into the latest coaching techniques and learn how to dramatically increase your players’ skills quickly & easily…CLICK HERE to find out how…

A good target player must be able to hold the ball up for this team to make attacking runs. If he gives it away too quickly, the attack breaks down.

Totti - a top target player in soccer

We must teach our players to be comfortable with possessing the ball for prolonged periods of time, and not give it away cheaply. The ability to keep the ball is the hallmark of the great teams in the world today.

Implementing soccer practice drills with a neutral player is a great method for helping your team get comfortable with the ball. Being numbers up in training facilitate ball movement, and always provide an open player for the offense.

Please comment with some of your favorite possession drills below…

Fastest Soccer Players

June 25th, 2011 by Admin

Who is the world’s fastest soccer player? This question is debated endlessly on soccer forums all over the Internet. Unfortunately since we can’t line them all up and race them, we’ll never really know. Also one must differentiate between fastest with and fastest without the soccer ball. We don’t have an answer, but several names came up more often than not when speed was mentioned.

In any event, you can bet these players have all done some serious soccer speed training in their lifetimes.

Cristiano Ronaldo – Ronaldo is a two-footed player, allowing him to play anywhere up front: right, left or through the middle. This has enabled Ronaldo and left winger Ryan Giggs to switch wings occasionally, helping Manchester United further confuse their opponents.

Ronaldo is renowned for his superb technical ability. Besides his trademark multiple step-overs, he also developed a wide array of flicks and skills, making him one of the most feared wingers in the Premier League. His blistering pace enables him to accelerate past defenders, either down the wings or cutting into the middle, and he can strike powerful shots from outside the box as well as being adept at finishing from close-range.

Thierry Henry - Although Henry played up front as a striker during his youth, he spent his time at Monaco and Juventus playing on the wing. When Henry joined Arsenal in 1999, Wenger immediately changed this, switching Henry to his childhood position, often pairing him with Dutch veteran Dennis Bergkamp. During the 2004–05 season, Wenger switched Arsenal’s formation to 4-5-1. This change forced Henry to adapt again to fit into the Arsenal team, and he played many games as a lone striker.

Still, Henry remained Arsenal’s main offensive threat, on many occasions conjuring up spectacular goals. Wenger once said of his fellow Frenchman: “Thierry Henry could take ball in the middle of park and score a goal that no one else in the world could score.”

Tap into the latest coaching techniques and learn how to dramatically increase your players’ skills quickly & easily…CLICK HERE to find out how…

One of the reasons cited for Henry’s impressive play up front is his ability to calmly score from one-on-ones. This, combined with his remarkable pace, means that he can get in behind defenders regularly enough to score.

Obafemi Martins – Martins is known for his exceptional pace, powerful shots and acrobatic goal celebrations. Although relatively short, Martins has a good leap and it has been reported that he used to be very good at the long jump and high jump.

Martins is left footed; however, since joining Newcastle he has shown that he is also more than capable of scoring with both feet, and also his head. He is also a firm favorite with the fans. They even sing his name when he’s not playing.

Martins has two brothers who also play football. His elder brother, Oladipupo Olarotimi Martins, is on the books of Serbian side FK Partizan, whilst his younger brother John Abiola Martins plays football in Nigeria.
The name ‘Obafemi’ translates literally to ‘the king loves me’ in the Yoruba language.

Theo Walcott – On 19 August 2006, Walcott made his Premier League début as an Arsenal player on the first day of the 2006–07 season. He came on as a substitute after 73 minutes against Aston Villa and supplied the cross from which Gilberto Silva volleyed in the equaliser.

Walcott scored his first goal for Arsenal in the Carling Cup Final against Chelsea at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on 25 February 2007, becoming the second-youngest goalscorer in a League Cup final. His eleventh minute strike was overshadowed by events later on in the match as Didier Drogba scored twice to give Chelsea a 2–1 victory and three players were dismissed following a mass brawl.

On 23 October 2007, Walcott scored his first goals at the Emirates Stadium in a Champions League match against Slavia Prague, which Arsenal won 7–0, as well as setting up a goal for Cesc Fàbregas. His second goal came from a fast run up the left wing which drew comparisons from television pundits with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry.

David Odonkor – In 2006 he became a surprise member of the Germany national football team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany despite never having been capped previously. He had however made a number of promising appearances in various German youth sides.

His tremendous speed caught the eye of many fans during the tournament.

On May 30, 2006, Odonkor made his debut for the Germany in a friendly match against Japan. He appeared as a substitute in the first two group games of the World Cup.

Against Poland, Odonkor displayed an excellent performance and assisted Oliver Neuville’s deciding goal in stoppage time of the second half.

He made two additional appearances as a substitute, in the quarter-final match against Argentina and in the semi-final match against Italy.

Lionel Messi - Messi also proved the ‘new Maradona’ tag was not all hype, by near-replicating both of Maradona’s most famous goals (the two against England in the 1986 World Cup) in the space of the single season.

On April 18, 2007, he scored two goals during a Copa del Rey semi-final against Getafe CF, one of which was very similar to Maradona’s famous goal against England at the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico, known as the Goal of the Century. The world’s sports press exploded with Maradona comparisons, and the Spanish press labeled Messi as “Messidona”.

He ran about the same distance (62 metres), beat the same number of players (six, including the goalkeeper), scored from a very similar position, and ran towards the corner flag just as Maradona did in Mexico 21 years before.

In a press conference after the game, Messi’s team-mate Deco said: “There’s no other like Leo”. Later on, in a crucial league match with Espanyol, Messi scored a goal that drew even more comparisons to Maradona’s Hand of God goal.

Creating a Positive Atmosphere through Communication

June 22nd, 2011 by Admin

Communication Confusion! (c) DickTay2000

Have you ever told someone you would meet them at a certain location at a certain time and you’re waiting, and waiting and eventually you call them asking where they are at?  In the end it turns out you were both on time and at the location you had previously talked about meeting, but there so happens to be two different places with the same name in your town.  It happens all the time.  This misnomer occurred because of a breakdown in communication which could have easily been prevented had they discussed the specific location (“the one on Main Street”).

I’ve always said the key to an excellent working relationship is good communication.   This is also true in the game of soccer.  There are several different aspects of communication and I’ve set to focus on the three in which I feel are most important:  getting to know your players, complementing and creating a positive atmosphere, and communicating on the pitch.

Get to know your players. As a coach, you are not only the teacher of the game but you are also a teacher of life.  You are a mentor in these kid’s lives.  It is important to get to know each and every player because they are all unique.  You have no idea what’s going on outside of soccer and in the homes /schools of these kids.  There might be something going on outside that could be affecting the way they are playing.  You need to be able to have the trust of your players.  Take a look at the article written by Robert Rowan “The Magic of Barcelona Soccer Unveiled.”  After reading it, you will notice the emphasis Barcelona’s youth program puts on developing their players as human beings – and not just footballers.  And this is coming from the youth development program of the European Champions of the world!

As mentioned before, every kid is unique and comes from a different background.  Coming to practice might be an opportunity to get away from what’s going on in their household.  If you can talk with your players and get them to realize that you do care about what’s going on in their lives, you might be able to get them to open up about something they otherwise would have no one to talk to about.  Within your practice sessions, engage in conversation and ask how their day at school went?  Find out about other sports or other extracurricular activities they might be involved in.  By doing so, you gain their trust. Who knows what information they want to share with you?

The power of a complement. Famous author Mark Twain once said, “I can live for two months on a good compliment.”  When you compliment someone not only do they feel good but there is also a greater chance they make the action reputable.  Within a practice session, recognize a player if he does something that you taught him.  Even stop the session and point it out:  “Did you see that pass you made?  Remember when we worked on that last week?”  Positive comments within the run of play are also beneficial, and contagious.  “Good shot, great pass, awesome tackle,” are all good examples.   Your players will follow your actions and words. This can be both positive and negative depending on what message you as a coach are delivering.  If you are giving positive complements to your players, your players in turn will start to give positive comments to each other on the field.  You really want to create a positive atmosphere.  By doing so you will drastically increases Simon Hartley’s three keys to enhanced team performance:  focus, confidence, and motivation.

Word of Mouth. You need to market to your players the importance of communicating on the pitch.  Unnecessary mistakes and errors will occur if communication breaks down. For example, two players judging a ball in the air go up for a header at the same time without saying “I got it” or “my ball” collide allowing the ball to go through (or even cause injury to one another).  A center back (with complete view of the pitch) not letting his teammate know that his mark is behind him allowing him free on a through ball.  Not communicating on a set play which could have led for an easy opportunity at goal.  These are all common mistakes that could have been prevented with good communication.  In your practices coaches should employ a standard set of vocabulary, so everyone is speaking the same language. Encourage the use of soccer terminology such as:  let, hold, switch, square, MAN ON, drop through, step, and I got ball.  Design drills around this terminology and get your players comfortable with using it.  Practice your overlapping runs and force your players to say “hold” every time they get around.  Within time, your players will get so used to using the terminology and it will become habit, reducing costly mistakes.

By using these three tools of: getting to know your players, using positive complements, and implementing soccer vocabulary within your training sessions, you will create that Positive Atmosphere necessary for good team chemistry and that feeling of family.

If your team is struggling to understand the importance of communication on the pitch check out my drill called “Awkward Silence.” It will help demonstrate to your players what happens when communication is lost.

How is your team doing with communication? Are you cultivating a positive atmosphere?
