Bareboat Yacht Charter: Tips to Selecting a Boat

April 24th, 2014 by Admin

There are a lot of different types of boats for rent. It is a good thing for the charterer, the choices get significantly trimmed down once they go with crewed or bareboat yacht charter. For many people, deciding whether to get a sailboat or powerboat isn’t an issue at all. For charterers with no strong choice, here are some helpful tips:

Sailboat or Powerboat

Except for the biggest yachts, sailing is an absolutely different experience compared to power. While sailboats are slower than powerboats, they’re a lot smoother and quieter when they are moving through water. Sailing is more on the journey, while powerboats is more on going where you want to go quickly.

Catamaran or Monohull

Choosing whether to hire a multiple hulled or one-hulled catamaran is one of the first decisions one normally makes.

A single-hulled vessel tends to be sloop-rigged, with spade rudders and fin keels. This means that they’re easy to handle and responsive under sail. On the other hand, a catamaran offers a higher degree of privacy as it has more spacious living accommodations compared to a monohull. But it’s often more expensive to charter compared to a monohull of the same length. The cabin stretches to the 4 corners of the yacht while the airy and light saloon and galley is a great area for social events. The wide space between the hulls gives very high boat stability — an important aspect if you and your party prefers a more upright orientation. Bear in mind that a catamaran is bigger than a monohull, and will need different sailing skills.

Accommodations and Size

While crewed yachts range from thirty to more than 300 feet long, yachts available for a bareboat charter often fall in the range from 30-50 feet. The major question you should ask is: “How big a boat am I able to handle?” Bigger boats will require higher level of crew strength as well as more experience.

Of course, the yacht’s size is the first determining factor with regards to the maximum number of individuals on board. Remember that a party of five people doesn’t require the same boat size as a party of 10 individuals. Cost is not necessarily associated to the capacity. There are crewed yachts available for rent that cost more than 0,000 for one week that have a minimum capacity of six individuals.

When you are looking at the boat size you think best fits your budget and personal preferences, consider the number of heads and cabins you’ll need. Most chartered vessels under 40 ft have 1 head and two to three cabins. A two-cabin boat is intended to accommodate two adults; and berth is the size of a regular double bed with less headroom. If you and your party want a private head for every cabin, you will have to look at boats in the 40-55 feet range.

Tips on how to Sail in Heavy Weather

December 20th, 2013 by Admin

Among the worst nightmares that a sailor may have is to cruise in rough weather. Heavy weather conditions aren’t something that you should ignore when you’re out in the open sea. But there are still a few things that you can do to ensure your safety if you choose to set sail in such conditions.

Make sure to make yourself knowledgeable about the things you need to do before heading out and losing sight of the land. Assembling storm sails, reefing sails, and being aware of the weather forecast and how it is going to impact your voyage are the things you need to consider. You can try and spend a day to practice coping with uneven seas and strong winds to enhance your sailing skills and survive the dangers of sailing in heavy weather.

Completely refrain from sailing when the weather forecast tells you it isn’t a good idea to do so. It is the most ideal thing you could do to avert potential dangers. Bad weather not only puts you at risk of the dangers of tornadoes, lightning and squalls. It also raises your possibilities of heat stroke, dehydration and hypothermia. If you’re planning to be out in the water for several days, try to know the weather conditions throughout the duration of your trip. This will can save you from the dangers that the sea may bring. Be sure to bring all necessary safety equipment for sailing.

Try lowering your sails. Spend more time on jibes, tacks and changes of sail in strong winds. You must keep in mind that the nearer you are to other docks or boats, the more difficult it is to navigate your boat. If possible, use smaller sails.

Make use of the anchor. Drop your anchors to direct the vessel in one direction. This will enable the vessel to progress slowly while in the middle of a storm.

Release warps or drogues. You may slow your vessel down by just releasing long ropes from the back of your boat. Ideally, it must be in a loop and should be approximately two wavelengths back as much as possible. The purpose of it is to keep the boat from running faster than the waves do. Small drogues can be used as small sea anchors.

If you are looking out for an exceptional adventure with your family or friends, just browse through the Cumberland Charter Yachts website at for more information about a budget-friendly yacht charter in Whitsunday.

5 Tips To Be a Good Soccer Parent

December 6th, 2013 by Admin

This article originally appeared at Soccer Classroom

A lot of times you hear the saying “Age is just a number” and it’s often around the time of someone’s birthday.  Let me reassure you, age is much more than a number; to me at least.

When we are young we sometimes take for granted everything our parents do for us.  Buy our equipment, take us to practice, drive us to tournaments, pay for our tournaments (maybe even a tournament t-shirt), make sure our uniforms are clean, and give ample support.  It takes a lot of time and energy and as a kid you don’t always understand all a parent actually does to make sure you get the best out of your soccer experience.

As I have grown older I have become closer and closer to my parents and I thank them whenever I can for everything the sacrificed through my entire soccer career.  During my teenage years playing premier soccer my Father would travel an hour to practice, sit at practice for two hours, and drive an hour home.  That’s four hours, which for a lot of people is half a work day!  Not to mention he would be putting in his time at work beforehand; I can imagine how exhausted he must have been.  If it wasn’t for my parents I would have never become the player I was, and I owe it all to them.

Here are five tips on how to be the best soccer parent:

1.  Learn the Game – The more educated you can be about the game the more you can engage with your child.  However, let your child dictate when they want to engage with you.  Sometimes after a tough game or a mistake that was made in a game, a child needs time to “cool-down” before they open themselves up to talk about it.  Give it time and wait for the right moment.

2.  Get Involved - Try and get involved with the team in any way you can.  Help out with fund-raisers, organize after game tailgates, volunteer with anything that interests you.  The more involved you get with the team, the more you support your child, the better experience for both the parent and child.

3.  Show Up - It sounds simple but it really makes a huge difference.  All you have to do is show up!  There are a ton of parents out there who just drop their kid off and pick them up when the games/practices are over.  A lot of times its those players who have low self-esteem and low self-confidence.  By showing up it shows you care.

4.  Be Positive - After a win give your kid a high-five and congratulate them on a good game.  After a tough loss, take that negative, and find a way to turn it into a positive.  ”It was a tough loss but we really passed the ball well today.  We will get them next year!”

5.  Have Fun - Develop relationships with the other parents on the team.  Make best friends.  This will open up to having car pooling opportunities, someone to hang out with at tournaments, and amplify your experience as a soccer parent.  It will give you a chance to bounce back and forth different ideas as well as give your kid a “second parent” when you aren’t able to make it to a game.

Learn the game, get involved, show up, be positive, have fun, and you will make the soccer experience better for both you and your child.

Tips for Punting as a Soccer Goalie

October 30th, 2013 by Admin

This article originally appeared at Soccer Classroom

Punting practice – (Photo:

Punting the ball well is an art that is often long forgotten when watching the professionals playing soccer.  Any time you watch the big boys play, the goalie routinely collects the ball and is able to blast it effortlessly up to the halfway line, where his or her teammates can battle it out for possession.  While from afar this task looks pretty easy, it is actually really hard work, especially for youth soccer players.

Being able to punt the ball far is vital!  If a goalie can’t get the ball out of their own defensive third, the team will have a great difficulty in pushing forward to the opponents’ goal.  Likewise, if your opponent collects a short punt, they could already be within your third of the field and could start lining up shots immediately!  Meanwhile, someone with the ability to blast it well beyond the halfway line is setting their team up for success, and might even earn some assists.  How can you be the goalie making the big game punts?

Practice it a lot.  Learn to kick the ball high and far.  There is a sweet spot that will enable you to hit the ball as far as possible, but learning it only comes with repeated practice.  Remember, you need the ball to carry upwards and outwards.  If you kick the ball really hard and low, it won’t get very far because eventually a player will be able to get a header or leg on it.  Low kicks may get somewhere fast, but it probably won’t be very far.  Likewise, kicking a punt sky-high won’t help your cause because the ball simply won’t go that far.  You want to send a punt that mixes the two, pushing it far and high.

Additionally, focus on your leg swing.  Obviously sheer strength will help some goalies punt better, but the fluidity and grace of your kick swing will make it go farther than a more jarring approach.  Another tip to remember is that you should be dropping the ball from the opposite hand in which you kick.  So if you kick with your right foot, drop the ball from your left hand.  This helps your body twist more in the kick and generates more power from your hips.

For young players, it can be very had to get any real power on a punt.  This can make punting a difficult challenge.  One tip I have for youngsters is to punt from the edge of your penalty box, as opposed to further within.  This will give your punt a head start and help you get the ball to teammates further out.  While you still need to work on your power, this move should prevent your team from having to defend a shot just moments after your punt.

Remember, as with any part of soccer, development and growth requires a great deal of practice.  If you wish to be a great goalie, get outside to a big park and work on punting.  I recommend having several balls for this drill because you will be doing a lot of running, though the best training method is to find another goalie partner, and punt it back and forth.  Either way, working on punting repeatedly is the only way to really grow as a punter.

Convenient Tips To Increase Your Fishing Success

July 15th, 2013 by Admin

If you often struggle in catching fish, or you don’t have what it takes to prevail in this sport, this short article is a must read. We’ve featured a number of tips from the pros which will aid you to improve your fishing techniques and come upon more fish.

If you are fishing with a current, cast into the current and let it bring your bait to the preferred area. This method will make it more likely for you to bag a bite. Just see to it that you do not leave a lot of slack line on the water.

Watch your knots. The knots in the fishing line hold your hooks to your line. It does not matter how many fish you seize if the hooks come free from the line under pressure. Practice knots with string or other material at home before you take to the water.

It will be smart to select a fly that strongly resembles insects in the site you are fishing at. Turn over a stone and matching your lures to the bugs you see underneath it. This will enable your flies to appear more authentic, inducing more nips.

Make time to look at your fishing line on a regular basis to see to it that it has not frayed, tangled or kinked. If it is, then remove the damaged part then re-knot it onto the lure. You do not want to be reeling in a fish only to have the line break.

Bring your digital camera with you so you can show people the fish you captured before putting them back in the water. This fish will remain with you and you can have proof of your fishing experience, when you bring along a camera.

It’s crucial to get the proper instruments with you when you are gone fishing. If you don’t know whether to carry live bait, it is going to depend on what type of fish you wish to snare. It is important to find out which bait works best in which situation.

When you are using grubs and are using a heavy line to fish with, make sure your grub has a sharp and powerful hook. Avoid from hooks made using fine wire because bass may quickly straighten these hooks. You can work with thin wire hooks when fishing with light line due to the fact that they are better suited for softer hook sets.

Limit the quantity of fish you catch. Though fishing may be a great, calming pastime, it is normally not good to seize more fish than you are going to eat or share. If you are simply catching for recreation, then you ought to unleash the fish you catch back into the water. This will help you to savor the sport and leave the fishes for others.

If you wish to go sailing and catch some fish, why not charter a yacht? To know more about bareboat yacht charter in Whitsundays, simply visit the CCY website today.

Beat the Heat with These Summer Soccer Tips to Stay Cool

June 24th, 2013 by Admin

This article originally appeared at Soccer Classroom

That sun is really hot! – (Photo:

The sport of soccer never rests, does it?  As the majority of major professional leagues continue with their summer breaks, countless soccer matches are still going ahead in the summer heat.  The USA National team has been on display this summer and is looking ahead to the Gold Cup tournament in July.  The MLS is in full swing, and tons of other competitions and international friendlies mean that players are sweating it out on the field in matches where the temperatures are pushing 90 degrees.

With summer vacation in the air, tons of kids will be heading outside as well, either engaging in casual pick-up soccer games or partaking in summer practices with their school or club teams before the season begins in the fall.  Although such games are highly encouraged and can lead to great improvements of your skills during the summer months, players must be smart to avoid possible troubles with the intense sun and heat.  Here are some tips to help you stay safe:

Drink water throughout the day and bring water along when you go play soccer.  Your body needs to be hydrated for good health, especially when you engage in a physical activity like soccer.  Dehydration can cause all sorts of problems, so make sure you can quench your thirst when you need to.

Look for shady spots.  Naturally, this can be difficult as most soccer fields provide little shade, but for casual kick-arounds, perhaps head to a local park where there are some trees.  This can greatly help keep the game cool.  If the field isn’t shaded, take advantage of breaks to find a shady spot so you can recover a bit from the hot weather.

Another thing to consider is playing soccer in the early morning or evening.  As temperatures are lower, you will have a much more comfortable playing experience and will lessen the risk of heat-related injuries.

Also, sometimes it can be very beneficial to wear a hat.  Most sun-related problems occur in your head with headaches and sunstroke, and these risks can be greatly diminished if you simply wear a hat.  Although this does limit your ability to head the ball, wearing a cap backwards can give you some protection and make you look really cool too!  Goalies have been known to wear hats during professional matches so the practice isn’t unheard of.

Another summer factor to consider is sunburn.  If you are planning on playing outside for an extended period in the middle of the day, be wise and apply some sunscreen.  Bad sunburn can leave you in terrible discomfort and sidelined for days.

Also, make sure that someone at the field has a cellphone.  This way, when any potential injury or problem comes up, you can make the necessary call to a relative or the hospital if need be.  Over-heating can cause all sorts of problems, and can sometimes even result in a death, so be exceptionally careful this time of year and follow these precautions so that you are prepared in the best shape to handle the summer heat.
